Abstract:
Design education is a multifaceted process that combines creativity, aesthetics, and functionality to address specific needs and enrich user experiences. But, a lack of exposure is witnessed among students in these aspects. To overcome these challenges, the study proposes the development of a co-working application platform that directly connects students, creating a dynamic environment for learning, interaction, and collaboration. Leveraging emerging technologies like Augmented Reality (AR) and Virtual Reality (VR), the platform enriches the design experience by enabling innovative ways of creating and visualizing designs. Moreover, it serves as a bridge between students and industry professionals, offering opportunities for insights, start-up ideas, and networking. Our design process involved student interviews from various design institutions, revealing a strong interest in interdisciplinary courses. Based on these insights, the study intends to create an application that allows students to explore diverse approaches, engage in multidisciplinary projects, utilize AR/VR for design visualization, connect with business professionals, and earn certificates of completion.
Usability testing yielded positive outcomes, highlighting the platform’s potential for versatile learning and broad professional development. The study identified that the majority of students are keen on cross-disciplinary courses, found the platform user-friendly, and endorsed AR/VR applications. This underscores the demand for diverse, industry-relevant courses emphasizing industry exposure and collaboration. In conclusion, the prototype presents a viable solution to improve education quality and lifelong learning in India. The co-working application platform fosters sustainable education through practical learning, visualization tools, and collaborative environments. By harnessing technology, and connecting students and industry professionals, the platform bridges educational gaps and creates a more inclusive and equitable landscape.
